The Academy for Precision Learning (APL) is a pioneering K-12 independent school dedicated to serving neurodiverse learners, particularly students with autism and ADHD. With a mission to provide an inclusive, individualized, and evidence-based education, APL creates a nurturing environment where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to achieve their fullest potential.

“At APL, we believe that every student deserves an education that meets their unique needs,” says Laura Barringer, Head of School. “Our neurodiversity-affirming approach ensures that our students not only thrive academically but also develop confidence and a strong sense of self.”

Holistic Approach to Education

What sets APL apart is its innovative model that seamlessly integrates special education, clinical therapies, and a rigorous academic curriculum. Small class sizes (3-7 students) and an impressive 1:4 faculty-to-student ratio enable highly personalized instruction.

“Our team includes special education teachers, BCBAs, counselors, and related service providers,” Barringer explains. “This multidisciplinary approach allows us to address each student’s needs holistically, ensuring they receive the support they need to excel.”

APL’s inclusive model benefits not only students but also fosters a collaborative and supportive school community. The school emphasizes the importance of an affirming environment where neurodiversity is celebrated, and students are encouraged to express themselves authentically.

Harnessing EdTech for Individualized Success

APL utilizes educational technology to support its mission of delivering data-driven, personalized education. By leveraging tools like Alma, APL tracks progress on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), facilitates effective communication among its multidisciplinary team, and drives data-informed instruction.

“Technology plays a critical role in our ability to provide tailored educational experiences,” Barringer notes. “From monitoring academic progress to enhancing collaboration between educators and clinical professionals, EdTech helps us maintain a high standard of excellence in our teaching and support strategies.”

Amplifying Impact Beyond the Classroom

APL’s commitment to neurodiversity-affirming education extends beyond its own students. The school is actively developing training programs to share its best practices with other schools and educational professionals, broadening the reach of inclusive education.

“Our goal is not only to support our own students but to influence positive change in the broader education community,” Barringer shares. “We are passionate about sharing our model and promoting a world where neurodiverse learners are understood, supported, and celebrated.”

Through its holistic approach, innovative use of technology, and dedication to community impact, APL is leading the way in providing meaningful, personalized education for neurodiverse learners and advocating for a more inclusive future in education.
