Alma team members share how their past careers in education evolved into roles that positively impact students globally with Alma.
.
After spending years in the classroom, Kelly transitioned to EdTech, bringing her passion for education to Alma. Now, as part of the Alma team, Kelly uses her experience to connect schools with Alma’s innovative platform, helping educators and administrators thrive.
Here’s a closer look at Kelly’s journey and how she’s shaping the future of education at Alma:
The leap into education
Kelly began her teaching career as an English teacher at a public high school for six years, followed by two years at an international K-12 school. Her classroom experience gave her invaluable insights into the challenges educators face daily, from lesson planning to student engagement.
Turning point
After COVID-19, Kelly knew she needed a change. While still passionate about education, she wanted to step away from the classroom and explore new opportunities. “I knew I wanted to stay in the education space, but I needed a break from classroom teaching,” she explains. Her desire for a more collaborative environment led her to Alma, where she quickly realized the company was a great fit. “From my first interview, I could tell Alma’s team was highly collaborative, and that was something I was really looking for.”
Making the leap
The transition from teaching to working at Alma was a big shift for Kelly. “Initially, having less structure in my day was a shock,” she says. However, she quickly adapted and learned to create her own structure to stay on track with learning the platform. “It was nice to leave behind the Sunday Scaries!” Kelly’s adaptability allowed her to thrive in her new role, using her educational background to connect with schools and understand their needs.
Alma’s impact
Kelly has witnessed firsthand the impact a modern, comprehensive student information system has on schools from her position at Alma. “Alma makes complicated systems and processes efficient and easy to use,” she shares. “We’re always looking for ways to reduce clicks and make it easier for educators to access the information they need. This focus on simplicity is what makes Alma stand out.”
Biggest takeaways
Kelly reflects on a key lesson from her journey with Alma: “Leaving the classroom doesn’t mean you’re not passionate about improving education and helping students.” She emphasizes that Alma’s team is full of people who are deeply committed to making a difference in education. “It’s been inspiring to see how passionate everyone at Alma is about supporting schools.”
Role at Alma
As a member of the Alma team, Kelly is dedicated to helping schools find the right solution for their unique needs. “I help connect Alma to schools that are looking for a better system,” she explains. “We work with schools around the world to show them that Alma doesn’t have to be complicated—our system is easy to understand and designed to make their lives easier.” Kelly is motivated by the relief educators feel when they realize Alma can simplify their processes. “When they see that Alma works for them, it’s incredibly rewarding,” she says.
Advice to educators
Kelly’s advice to educators considering Alma is simple: “Be open to change. When you adopt a new system, it’s the perfect time to try new practices. The old ways may have been dictated by the system you’re leaving behind, so now’s the time to approach things differently.” She encourages educators to embrace the opportunity to improve and streamline their operations with Alma.
Kelly’s journey proves that moving from the classroom to EdTech doesn’t mean losing the passion for education—it just means finding a new way to make a bigger impact. Alma’s platform is shaping the future of education, and Kelly is proud to be a part of that transformation.
